The Question

Hi,
Very nice site, my first wedding as the mother of the groom, need all the help I can find :-)
My question is: can the mother of the groom give a bridal shower in addition to the one given by the mother of the bride?
Thanks! Elizabeth

Kori's Answer

Congratulations on your son's engagement! Though years ago it was traditional for the maid of honor or the bride's family to throw the bridal shower, things have changed in recent years. It's now proper for anyone close to the couple to throw a shower for them. And it's definitely acceptable to have multiple showers.

You might consider hosting a "Couple's Shower" where both men and women are invited. At a Couple's Shower, you can still play the traditional corny games and all, but the guests are encouraged to bring gifts for both the bride and the groom. You can set it up so that male guests give to the groom and female guests to the bride, or guests can buy a gift for the couple together from their registry. Of course, no one is required to bring a gift.

If you want to throw a larger shower, you might get together with the Mother of the Bride and host a shower together.
