Real Weddings in Canada

Carmen Macnab & Brody Gervais grew up together, living just a few miles apart outside the small community of Mervin, Saskatchewan. They were the perfect candidates to be childhood sweethearts and even lived together during college ... but they didn't actually become a couple until a couple of years ago!

For their wedding, they knew they wanted to return to their small-town Saskatchewan roots. With about 500 of their family and friends - Mervin is a close-knit community - they were joined in marriage on Carmen's family's farm on a beautiful spring day. It was truly a farm wedding - behind the blooming lilac bushes, the sounds of the Macnab's black Angus bulls calling to the cows could be heard.

The locations for photos were all local and showcased Saskatchewan's scenery - the Macnab farm, the now-abandoned Mervin bridge, and an old homestead we found on the road to the Macnab family farm. To transport the wedding party of 14, the man who used to drive Carmen and Brody on the school bus every morning chauffeured the guys and gals around in a bus.

Every part of Carmen & Brody's wedding day reflected their strong ties to their community and to their families, with siblings, cousins and life-long friends making up both sides of the wedding party.

Instead of tinking glasses, if you wanted the bride and groom to kiss you had to get at least one shot into the hole, and you could choose to use a hockey stick or a putter. That particular picture is of one of the grandmas ... I don't think she managed to get a shot in though!

Carmen's beautiful dress, as well as her bridesmaid's classic black dresses, came from Ooh La La in Lloydminster, where Carmen and Brody reside. Katie Thackery-Guy from Vivid in Lloydminster did three of the girls' hair (including the bride!) and all the make up. Lana Duhaime, a hairdresser from Edam, also did hair for the ladies.

The stunning flowers and cake were made with love by friends - one of the bridesmaid's mothers arranged the gorgeous roses, which came from Costco in Edmonton, and the beautiful (and delicious!) cake was made by one of the groomsmen's wives, Angie Barr. The reception took place in the Turtleford Arena and was catered by the ladies of the Turtleford and District Recreation Association. Sundown Sound Systems of Lloydminster, Alberta was the DJ for the reception and dance.
