Bridal Odyssey Show is Getting Bigger

By Jennifer Keating, First Monday

It's one of the most anticipated events for Sarnia brides. For nine years, the Bridal Odyssey show has brought together some of the best wedding vendors in the city. This year promises to be better than ever as organizers move the show to a larger location at Hiawatha Horse Park and Slots. "This is going to give us lots of room to grow," says Bridal Odyssey 2009 networking coordinator Carol Goodwin. "Every year, we increase the number of exhibitors, offering more to our brides."

This year there are 52 vendors participating in the show from photography, invitations, food, décor and videography. While visiting the various exhibitors, brides can also get the latest in bridal wear with the fashion show. Goodwin says they can expect the same quality that they have had in the past. "People will be able to see the show and be wit the exhibitors at the same time. We only allow top reputable companies in the show. Lambton Mall is the main sponsor of the event but every vendor has donated prizes for the show."

More than $2500 in prizes can be won during the event. A crowd pleaser at the show is the Avon's "Spin to Win" where everyone wins a prize. There are also gift certificates from every vendor that will be raffled off. "We are really excited about this year's show," says Goodwin. "I feel that the brides will have a lot of choice when it comes to making plans for their special day."

On average, between 100 – 160 brides attend the show. The high turnout is a direct result of some compelling research on the timing of such events. Majority of Sarnia brides get engaged over the holidays, so having the event on the first Sunday in January is a good marketing move, says Goodwin. "They get engaged over Christmas, and the brides are excited and want to start their planning with their family and friends before they head back to school."

The cost of a wedding today can vary from $10,000 to $25,000 and beyond, depending on the wedding plans. Many women have been dreaming of their perfect wedding day since they were little girls. Couples quickly realize that the wedding budget can rise rapidly. Bridal Odyssey allows brides to collect prices and availability before deciding on a vendor well ahead of time.

Goodwin says that once a bride decides on her wedding date, they need to move quickly and secure certain vendors. "A bride should make sure she has the venue, church or minister booked immediately if she has her heart on a specific location. After that, the photographer, videographer and décor should be decided upon so that they don't get disappointed if a vendor is booked."

The Bridal Odyssey show is on Sunday, January 4th, 2009, from 10am to 4pm at the Hiawatha Horse Park and Slots on London Road. Tickets are $5. Businesses are still welcome to participate in the event.
